Tom Herman is a Managing Director at GreatBridge Consulting, specializing in the determination of economic damages in intellectual property litigation and other corporate disputes. Mr. Herman is experienced in developing analyses of intellectual property in support of valuations, reasonable royalty determinations and lost profit calculations for matters involving patents, trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, breach of contract and false advertising claims. He analyzes accounting, financial, and economic issues related to liability and damages in various types of complex disputes including determinations of lost profits, diminished asset value, the identification of fraudulent transactions, forensic accounting and insolvency analysis. Mr. Herman is well versed in statistical analysis and has extensive experience in analyzing survey data to support and rebut survey findings. He provides economic, valuation and strategic consulting in patent licensing and infringement matters in federal and state courts as well as for the ITC.
Prior to joining GreatBridge, Mr. Herman was a Manager in the Financial Planning department of one of the nation’s largest health insurance companies. He previously served as a Director in the Expert & Valuation Services practice of Ocean Tomo, an intellectual property consulting and services firm. He spent five years as a Manager in the Financial Advisory Services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP where he served on the firm’s national trademark practice team. He began his career in the Chicago office of the Special Services Group of Ernst & Young, LLP.
Mr. Herman has over twenty-three years of business experience, including seventeen in the field of expert services. This experience includes performing due diligence and valuation analyses for acquisitions, divestitures and start-up enterprises, the development of activity-based costing/management systems, leading cross-functional teams to develop or enhance reporting for corporate and regulatory users, and evaluating strategic opportunities. Mr. Herman has prepared expert reports, advised counsel on damages theory development and supported testifying experts in federal and state courts. He is experienced in all phases of the litigation process from pre-filing through discovery and trial.
Mr. Herman holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Kentucky.
